StampBase for Windows is a shareware software product. STAMPB.EXE is a self-extracting file containing the compressed files required to use StampBase for Windows. STAMPB.EXE was created using the software program LHA (Copyright 1990-1991 by Haruyasu Yoshizaki). SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM PC or compatible 80286, 386 or 486 with 2 MB RAM, a hard drive and Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher. Program supports mouse and keyboard. DETAILED DESCRIPTION StampBase takes advantage of the Windows' Graphical User Interface (GUI) and its memory management capabilities. StampBase is a Windows application. The program will not work outside the Windows environment. StampBase provides intuitive data entry, edit, query and browse features. The following information can be entered for each stamp: country, catalog number, category (type), issue year, description, grade, purchase date, cost, market value and comments. Information is sorted and indexed on most fields. Reports display records and collection statistics on screen on in printed hard copy. Create one or more database files containing an unlimited number of stamp records. The file format was changed in this new version. This means Version 1.5 cannot properly read Version 1.0 files. The file format change was due to program enhancements requested by registered users. We created an import utility for you to convert your 1.0 files to the 1.5 format. The import utility is available to registered users. This is NOT free software. This is NOT public domain software. StampBase for Windows is a shareware software product. You are expected to pay a $24.95 registration fee plus shipping and to the author if you find it useful. Windows' File Manager will help you create a directory and copy the program files from the disk to the new directory on the hard drive. File Manager is usually in the first position in the Main Group window of Program Manager. If you use a Windows desktop manager such as Norton DesktopTM, follow the desktop manager's instructions for creating a directory and copying files. Mouse * Double-click the File Manager program icon. Keyboard * Press the left or right arrow key to move the highlight to the File Manager program icon and press ENTER. Create a New Directory: Mouse 1. Point to File on the menu bar and click. 2. Point to the Create Directory menu item and click. The Create Directory dialog box will appear. 3. Type the new directory name including the drive, if different then the current one. Example: c:\STAMPWIN 4. Point to the OK button and click to create a directory. Keyboard 1. Press ALT, F to open the File menu. 2. Press E to select Create Directory. The Create Directory dialog box will appear. 3. Type the new directory name including the drive, if different then the current one. Example: c:\STAMPWIN 4. Press ENTER to create a directory. Copy StampBase Files to New Directory: Make sure the source and destination disk drive icons are visible. Mouse 1. Point to the disk drive icon (A or B) containing the StampBase program files and click. 2. Highlight the StampBase files in the list on the right side of screen and click. 3. Point to File on the menu bar and click. 4. Point to the Copy menu item and click. The Copy dialog box will appear. 5. Type the destination disk drive and directory. Example: C:\STAMPWIN 6. Point to the OK button and click. Keyboard 1. Press CTRL and letter of disk drive containing the StampBase files. 2. Press TAB to move cursor to the file list. 3. Press the Down direction key to highlight the StampBase files. 4. Press F8. The Copy dialog box will appear. 5. Type the destination disk drive and directory. Example: C:\stampwin 6. Press ENTER to begin copying files. Installing StampBase - Files Compressed Copy STAMPB.EXE to your hard drive before attempting to unpack the program. Windows' File Manager will help you create a directory and copy the archive file from the disk to the new directory on the hard drive. File Manager is usually in the first position in the Main Group window of Program Manager. If you use a Windows desktop manager such as Norton DesktopTM, follow the desktop manager's instructions for creating a directory and copying files. Mouse * Double-click the File Manager program icon. Keyboard * Press the left or right arrow key to move the highlight to the File Manager program icon and press ENTER. Mouse 1. Point to the drive icon where STAMPB.EXE is located and click. 2. Point to the directory where STAMPB.EXE is located and click. 3. Point to STAMPB.EXE and double-click. The program will exit Windows to unpack the files in DOS. The StampBase files will now be unpacked in the new directory. The program will return to File Manager when unpacking is done. Keyboard 1. Press TAB to move cursor to a drive icon. Use the direction key(s) to highlight the drive containing STAMPB.EXE and press ENTER. 2. Press TAB to move cursor to directory list. Use the direction key(s) to highlight the directory containing STAMPB.EXE and press ENTER. 3. Press TAB to move cursor to the file list. Use the direction key(s) to highlight STAMPB.EXE and press ENTER. The program will exit Windows to unpack the files in DOS. StampBase will now be unpacked in the new directory. The program will return to File Manager when unpacking is done. Setup an Application Group Creating an application group for StampBase makes the program easier to run. See your Windows user guide for information on application groups. Mouse 1. Point to SETUP.EXE located in the STAMPWIN directory and double-click. The StampBase Setup window will appear. The default path c:\stampwin\stampwin.exe" will appear in the window. 2. Point to the Setup button and click if the default path is correct. Setup will begin creating an application group. Point to the default path text box and click if the path is not correct. Point to the Setup button and click after changing the path. A Setup dialog box will appear when setup is done. 3. Point to the OK button and click. The dialog box will disappear. 4. Point to the Exit button and click. The setup window will disappear. See instructions for exiting File Manager. Repeat the setup procedure with correct path if the StampBase icon is missing from the group window. Keyboard 1. Press the direction arrow key(s) to highlight SETUP.EXE located in the STAMPWIN directory and press ENTER. The StampBase Setup window will appear. The default path "c:\stampwin\stampwin.exe" will appear in the window. 2. Press ENTER if the default path is correct. Setup will begin creating an application group. Press TAB to move the cursor to the default path text box if the default is incorrect. Press TAB to move to the Setup button and press ENTER after changing the default path. A Setup dialog box will appear when setup is done. 3. Press ENTER. The dialog box will disappear. 4. Press TAB to highlight the Exit button and press ENTER. See instruction for exiting File Manager.
